Our Biographies

Here are biographies of the DMCO team.

Lori Bolkosky—Not So Crabby Bookkeeper

Lori joined DMCO officially on January 1, 2005 to take over the duties of the now retired Ann Matthews. We met Lori when she was our neighbor—screaming at each other over the backyard fence. That’s not true really—we always got along. Now, she gets to find out what really goes on.

Lori was born and raised in Rochester, NY and graduated from the University there in 1965.Starting her professional life as an elementary school teacher, Lori (aka Lorraine) eventually moved to the world of accounting after her two children were in school. She was controller of a large company in Pontiac, MI for 17 years. At that job, she managed the payroll and benefits for 400 employees as well as the number crunching for the company. When not working Lori is busy volunteering, tutoring third graders and in a community library.

Lori has a talented family. Her husband, Sid, is an author and professor of history; her daughter, Miriam, a free-lance cellist who performs in chamber concerts and with the Boston Pops, is married to Benjamin Wright, a trumpet player with the Boston Symphony; and her son, Gabriel, is a classical and jazz violinist in Ann Arbor, MI.

Melissa Fahning—The Avatar of HR

Melissa came to us in 2006 after discovering that she had way too much time on her hands raising two young daughters. It turns out that it is just too easy for someone with her energy and talents. Occasionally she has to tap dance a bit with the folks from Child Protective Services (you may have heard one or both of her darlings in the background when you have spoken with her on the phone), but so far she has managed to confound the bureaucrats and become the very personification of a multi-tasking mom.

Prior to the birth of her second child, Melissa ran the HR department for one of our largest clients. She is not only a true HR professional (she has a Masters Degree in Human Resources from CMU), but she came to us completely familiar in our DigitalFlex™ system. It took her just a couple of months to get her arms around the benefit plan specifics for each of our clients and to complete the training class with our vendor. Her knowledge of employee benefits generally and insurance plans specifically, combined with years of real hands on experience working with employees directly, allows DMCO to provide you with one of the very "best in the business" to work with you and your employees.

When she is not working with your employees, Melissa is busy raising the aforementioned Morgan and Hannah, and taking care of her husband Bryan and Logan the Lab, in Washington Township.

Bitsy Jacobites—Product Maven

Bitsy (Elizabeth) Jacobites joined DMCO in 2000 after retiring from the multinational insurance giant CIGNA. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she started with CIGNA as a Sales Assistant (big corporate speak for Secretary) and finished her career there as Regional Sales Manager leading her office to the top five in the country. A truly amazing journey during which she served in virtually every capacity including claims and administration, and included inventing (with an assist from Dick Matthews) a major portion of the insurance part of our DigitalFlex® product.

After her retirement from CIGNA, Dick convinced her to come over to the “dark side” and put her tremendous knowledge and experience to work where it can really do some good—the universe of small employers. She also brings a great discipline in product and plan compliance that is so very helpful to our customers as well. When she is not shopping for and installing the most appropriate products for our clients, Bitsy lives in Beverly Hills with her husband Don (also a UM graduate) and their son Steve. They spend a great deal of time celebrating all things UM (a real surprise, huh?) and are extremely active in the community and school system.

Dick Matthews, CEBS—Vision Guy

Dick graduated from Western Michigan University in 1968 virtually unscarred by formal education and—just to prove it—began a teaching career. It lasted four fun filled and insane years until he saw the light and began a career in the insurance business with Equitable Life in Detroit.

Dick has always specialized in qualified plans (he wrote the second 401(k) plan in Michigan in 1974) and began to design and install full choice section 125 cafeteria plans in 1986. Dick is a recognized expert on these plans and teaches CE credit classes to those in the insurance industry.

It is through the work Dick has done with these plans that he has become aware of the benefits of using a digital nervous system not only to administer them, but also to actually run the entire insurance agency. He has spearheaded our move to becoming a “virtual business”. No one really knows for sure if he is right, but it does give him something to do and he has less time to upset our clients.

When he is not “visioning,” Dick lives on Hilton Head Island, SC with his wife, Martha.

Laura Weller—Tech Goddess

Laura’s first job was as a rock star groupie—one of the original “Banger Sisters”. After a few years of debauchery she began a long and storied career as an office manager for a large insurance agency in Birmingham, Michigan. Finally, growing tired of dealing with people even more obnoxious than rock stars, she retired to raise her son Evan.

Growing restless after a few years, she went back to school and became a certified Microsoft Engineer. DMCO snatched her up immediately upon completion of her degree (we knew her from her previous life—the insurance business, not the groupie thing).

She is in charge of all things technological at DMCO. One might say she is the most important associate in a virtual company. She thinks she is—hence her self proclaimed title. When not making certain all of us, our hardware, and our software are in perfect working order, she enjoys life with her husband Bob and the aforementioned son, Evan. They reside in Birmingham, Michigan.
